Top Tips for Winning
- After we’ve received your entry...
After the closing date we will write to you inviting you to provide your products for judging. You will be asked to provide three of each product for judging. Full instructions will be given on how to label the products so that they can be judged anonymously.
- When does judging take place?
Judging takes place in November each year at Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline. We ask that products are delivered between 9.00am – 11.30am on the day.
- What to do if you can’t deliver your products personally for judging
Parcel Delivery or Courier Services are available throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
- How to package your entries
You should ensure that products arrive in the best possible condition. It is recommended that polystyrene boxes and ice packs be used but please remain ‘green’ and don’t over package your entries.
- Who judges the products?
The judging team is led by Head Judge Ian Nelson and consists of independent and expert judges from the baking industry. Scottish Bakers, the competition organisers go to great lengths to ensure that all judging is completely anonymous.
- Mystery Shop Judging
The Scotch Pie category and one other class will be selected by the Head Judge and be subject to a second tier of judging. The top scoring products on judging day will be mystery shopped and the winners decided by a team of independent judges.
- What prizes can you win?
Each category will have a BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD & DIAMOND (Category winner) Award. The winner of the Scotch Pie Category will be crowned World Scotch Pie Champion. The Maclean Cup is awarded to the winner of the Speciality Savoury section.
